Annual Women's Amateur, "The Belle" 2004 Dreyer Motorsports and Reads Racing Unlimited Women's Amateur Motocross Championship Hangtime MX Park - Akron, In August 21, 2004 The 3rd Annual Dreyer Motorsports and Reads Racing Womens Amateur Motocross
Championship was once again a great success. 45 women from the surrounding
Tri-State Area eagerly awaited there chance to prove who had the skills.
The event is gaining great The 125 & Up was sure to be a great race with Dian Klinger, Kandise Lindley, Jennifer Bender and Allison Vrba all aboard matching Hondas. Klinger pulled the Holeshot and was followed close by Lindley and then Vrba. Vrba was set to put the brakes on Klinger's win streak but went down early on lap one allowing Lindley a chance to stay with Klinger with no pressure to block any lines. Bender took over the third place ride slipping around the downed ride of Vrba and held it until the end. Vrba fell to last and rode back up to 6th like a rocket. Klinger slipped into overdrive on lap 3 and never looked back. Lindley rode a respectable 2nd followed closely by Bender. In moto two, Klinger once again grabbed the holeshot followed again closely by Lindley and Vrba. At half track, Vrba had slipped in front of Lindley and began her quest to catch Klinger. Klinger rode the perfect race and put everything she had into it. She spoke after the race and said she was asked to tank the big bike class at Loretta's and put more into her main class riding the 100KTM. Her team asked her to "use the big bike class as a learning experience". "But today I was giving it my all with no one telling me to slow down". She also mentioned she knew she was gonna have a tough race because she knows Vrba and Lindley are both getting faster. "I knew I was favored in the 80 to 105 today being ranked 4th in the Nation, so today I had to prove I could also race the 125 & Up with the older girls". In the 80 thru 105 as you might have guessed it, Klinger who is ranked 4th in the nation rode to a decisive win proving why she carrys a low digit on her plate. Although Danielle Schmidt posed a threat early by grabbin' the holeshot. Klinger rode squarely on her heals until they approached the 100 foot tabletop, and then it was bye-bye, see ya later. Schmidt and Pressler had a battle that was keeping the crowds attention. Pressler ended up capturing the 2nd place ride but was unable to support it with a good finish in moto two. Schmidt rode a good first moto right with Pressler but twisted the pipe a bit harder in moto two finishing second for a second place overall. Klinger raced to a 1-1 finish giving the girls a glimpse of what it takes to be a nationally ranked rider. In the 50cc class returning to defend her 2003 crown was Hannah "Splash" Spitler. Spitler was the favorite along with Lindsey Mason who was also trying to repeat or better her 2003 finish. Spitler grabbed the holeshot and early lead and was chased by Mason. Spitler opened up her lead a little bit every lap. Mason held her second place ride down by a wide gap finishing the day with a 2-2 for a 2nd overall. Splitler will hold her crown another year by repeating a 1-1 finish. A new class added to the event this year is the Showcase class. The Showcase
class is designed to get all the women out there and racing. This was
not a pitbike race. The girls were suited up to race and rode what they
brought. No two-strokes were able to compete in this class. The field
consisted of young girls, adult girls, and adult women. Tiffany Walker
grabbed the holeshot in both motos and also finished 1-1. But the story
of the day involves Sandy Klinger. Pint sized Klinger so badly wanted
to finish 3rd. She was gettin' a bit excited at the gate and made her
decision to finish 3rd well before practice had even began. She sized
up the riders and realized she had the chance to do so if she could just
get lucky and hang in there. She started the race in 4th and rode past
two The 65cc class was the best race for that class in the 3 year history
of the event. Ariel Copeland was able to hold off Rebecca Sheets for the
holeshot. But Copeland had her skills tested at every turn by Sheets.
Not more than one second behind that fight was another battle between
Alexandra Atherton and Emily Titus. It was a race that coulda been won
by anyone of the girls. Samantha Tarnowski was also a favorite in the
event, but seemed to be suffering with engine problems. That was apparnent
when I didn't see her blazing out of the gate. Eventually Sheets slipped
out to finish 5th and Copeland coasted to the finish. Titus kept Atherton
at bay for second Another new class this year for the girls was a MINI QUAD CLASS. Dian
Klinger decided to race the event and checked out on her competition.
Kayleen Hollinger and Alexandra Bradley were the only other two women
in the class. Hollinger rode steady and smooth while trying to keep her
speed up. It was enough to hold off Alexandra Bradley who was entered
in her first race ever. She was enjoying herself, that was apparent. She
did real good to make it around Hangtime without any trouble. Hollinger
and the other girls had to do battle with the boys who were also staged
with them. Hollinger was able to put away a couple riders and complete
her A special thanks to Kerry Martin of the Martin Racing Team for all her
hardwork. She's "My favorite Martin" and also to Doc's Design
for the Championship shirts and Holeshot awards. I know the girls really
enjoy this event and some have said it is their favorite race of the year.
Keep it up girls, your attendance is being looked at by major manufacturers.
